Plant Protection Institute is a research and development unit, it is a legal person registered at Regional Court in Poznan, XXI Commerce Department, National Judicial Register entry No. KRS: 00000 80209.

Plant Protection Institute was established in 1951. Its scope of activities is based on the following: Act of July 25, 1985 regarding R&D units (Dz.U. [Government Publication] of 1991, No. 44, item 194 and No. 107, item 464, Dz.U. of 1992, No. 54, item 254, Dz.U. of 1994r. No. 1, item 3 and No. 43, item 163), executive order No. 33 by the Government Council of January 24, 1951 regarding reorganization of agricultural science, a statute approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Economy in 1996.

Scope of activities:

The Plant Protection Institute’s primary scope of activities involves research, development and implementation studies and it covers the following, more specific issues:

  • biology, ecology and harmfulness of microorganisms, harmful fauna and weeds for cultivated plants and agricultural products,
  • prevention and control methods targeting diseases, pests and weeds on agricultural crops,
  • registration and reporting of outbreaks of pests and plant diseases,
  • evaluation of applicability and efficacy of pesticides before their admission to distribution and use,
  • control of pesticide residues in foodstuff, soil and water,
  • preventing harmful effects of chemistry in agriculture,
  • development of safe disposal methods for expired pesticides,
  • development of diagnostic methods and ways of controlling diseases and quarantine pests,
  • collection, identification and storage of cultivated plant pathogens found in Poland,
  • development of loss determination methods for cultivated plant crops damaged by agrophages and evaluation of biological efficacy and economic impacts of pesticide treatments,
  • determine the assortment of pesticides applicable around drinking water zones,
  • coordinate activities and supervise the process of admission to distribution and use of pesticides necessary for agriculture, horticulture and forestry.
